Evening With Industry

What: Mixer between students and company representatives

When: February 15th, 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Where: DCH 1070

The Society of Women Engineers at Rice will be hosting the annual “Evening With Industry” event on Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 from 8:00-10:00 pm in DCH 1070. This is a great opportunity for companies interested in engineering students as well as SWE members and other engineers to interact in a more one-on-one setting.

This is a business casual event, and it is a way for companies and students to get to know each other more. It will be a more informal setting (no presentations, powerpoints, etc.) where company representatives and students can chat. Many students will also be bringing resumes. We will have desserts and other snacks and refreshments provided at the event.

Girl Scout Day

On Girl Scout Day, 100 girls from 5th through 7th grade will be on Rice Campus. We will need volunteers to guide the participants, share their experience with girls, as well as help out in the workshops. If you like kids, or if you are passionate about knowledge, do sign up!

As usual, volunteers will sign in and enjoy some delicious breakfast before starting. Your help will be greatly appreciated and all participation count towards the New Point System.

We will be hosting six workshops as listed in the form. We welcome either morning shift or afternoon shift or both. Please fill out the following link:

CCD Info Session

This will be extremely helpful for those attending the upcoming SWE National Conference in Chicago and is a good talk to attend. We will also be providing dinner (Thai), so see you soon!

Mentorship Social

On Wednesday, SWE will be hosting the Fall Mentorship Social! This is
a great opportunity to chat with upperclassmen, grad students, and
professional engineers in an informal setting. Hear them share their
experiences as engineers, and ask any questions you have about being
an engineer at Rice! Dinner will be provided. This is open to all SWE members, so even if you didn’t sign up to be a mentor or mentee, you can still participate!

SWE Resume Book

This year, we are implementing a SWE Resume Book, that would contain resumes of SWE members to be sent out to interested companies who work with SWE. It is a great way to get exposed to jobs, opportunities, and internships at a variety of companies interested in hiring women in engineering and science. Send your resume to swe@rice.edu, with your name, major, and year in the body of the email by September 20th to be part of the SWE resume book.

SWE Mentorship Program

The SWE Mentorship Program matches underclassmen with upperclassmen with the same major, and upperclassmen are mentored by professional engineers or graduate students. It is a way to network and get advice for classes, internships, and jobs. Please fill out the interest form by September 7th if you would like to participate:
